DAICHI ISHIZAWA creates sculptures and assemblage works centered on the motif of the "Kūkan Ningyō" (Spatial Dolls), dolls with missing heads. In recent years, the artist has also incorporated generative AI, expanding their practice into photography, video, and other visual works.
Human beings perceive the universe and recognize the world through their own heads.
The world we grasp is shaped by perception and recognition, and within it, reality and virtual image overlap.
The headless Spatial Dolls exist outside the scope of such human recognition.
Moving through the many "in-betweens"—space and time, reality and virtual image, person and person—the Spatial Dolls appear throughout the artist's works.
